On December 3rd IMERSA hosted a panel of immersive audio specialists to do a deep dive into discussions around the differences and similarities of creative and technical practices for developing immersive audio content to be distributed across VR, AR, and Fulldome platforms.

Over the past few years the field of immersive audio has exploded. With the popularization of VR, AR, and XR new production tools, techniques, and workflows to address the evolving nature of immersive experiences have been introduced into the industry.

Ana Monte studied “Music Industry and Technology” with a focus on “Recording Arts” at California State University, Chico. She did her Masters in “Film sound and Sound design” at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, in Germany. For her work as sound designer, Ana has received diverse sound awards including “Best Sound Design in a Drama series” at the LA Webfest 2015 and a “Best Sound” nomination from the LA Film Review. In 2016 she co-founded with Daniel Deboy the audio production company DELTA Soundworks, focussing on immersive audio productions for XR, Fulldome and amusement parks. Ana is a member of the Audio Engineering Society and the Abbey Road Spatial Audio Forum.

Jean-Pascal believes in a vision of the future where everything you experience digitally is more immersive, more emotional, and more meaningful when what you see and do has a deep connection to what you hear.

With Headspace Studio, Jean-Pascal established himself as a creative pioneer in the emerging field of spatial audio for XR. The studio has worked with high-profile creative partners on over 45 XR projects including 4 Emmy Awards.

The most recent, Space Explorers: The ISS Experience, is the most ambitious project ever filmed in space and is currently being adapted in several formats including a 4-episode cinematic VR miniseries, a location-based VR exhibition, and fulldome. Other project highlights include Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs: Behind the Scenes (in VR), Jurassic World: Blue, Traveling While Black, The People's House: Inside the White House with Barack and Michelle Obama, and Gloomy Eyes featuring Colin Farrell.

Multimedia artist based in Montreal, Mourad Bncr’s work blends new forms of cinematic composition and immersive sound crafting techniques. Nourished by an experimental approach, his music explores the edges of beat-music, augmented with concrete sounds and textures to reach deeper levels of detail and immersion. He has developed a rich and visual approach to music over the years, completed by a prolific career as a sound designer specialised in immersive environments, spatial sound and interactive content.

In 2016, he joined the Society for arts and technology as a project manager and all around “audio spatialist”. He has been a part of the immersive creation and residency team since then, which oversaw and supported close to 70 creation projects during the past 6 years.

Long time collaborator with french art collective Nature Graphique, VR director Pierre Friquet, and Society for Arts and Technology in Montréal, he’s also the co-founder of the Unlog, a music label focused on leftfield electronic and audio-visual explorations with a distinctive musical signature made of hypnotic moods and tight producing. Creator behind the studio embody.audio, he has released several projects under various monikers between 2007 and 2019, before starting a new adventure with the [indistinct voices over PA] project in 2020.

Pierre Brand is a Sound Engineer and Sound designer based in Hamburg, Germany.

He graduated from the “Berklee College of Music” with a dual major in Music Production & Engineering and Professionell Music. After a few years on the road he started working as a re-recording mixer and in 2006 he founded the audio post production facility “Primetimestudio”.

Since 2010 Pierre has been involved in 3D audio content mostly working for Planetariums in Germany.
His main line of work in this field is to create 3D audio experiences of audio plays and remapping existing mixes which initially weren’t produced for 3D.

Primetimestudio has a wide range of audio mixing and playback formats such as SpatialSoundWave (Fraunhofer), Morrow Sound, Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio Designer.

Pierre is also a member of the Immersive Sound Committee within the IPS and is looking forward to sharing his hands on experiences.
