Visit the 9th FullDome Festival!
Each year several hundred people visit the FullDome Festival hosted by the Zeiss Planetarium in Jena, Germany. The Jena FullDome Festival is a key event devoted to audio-visual productions for dome-filling presentations. It provides an internationally recognized platform for creative people and a forum for planetarians and fulldome folks. Visitors watch the latest fulldome productions from around the world. In workshops, presentations and discussions during the Festival, the participants get to know each other and exchange experiences. The Festival contributes to sounding out the potential of the fulldome medium, trying out new ideas, approaches and technical tools, and pushing back frontiers. Getting kindred spirits into contact, inspiring new ideas and promoting collaboration is not the least of the strengths of the Jena FullDome Festival. With contributions and guests from around the world, the 9th FullDome Festival again will confirm its status as the biggest international festival of its kind. The 2015 Festival motto revolves around “Romantic Circles”.
Festival contributions will be judged and the best awarded by criteria of content and treatment, technical implementation, artistic design, creativity, originality, narrative quality, entertainment value, and general contribution to the artistic, innovative and technical advancement of the fulldome medium including spatial sound. The FullDome Festival will present the already famous JANUS Awards, Honorable Mentions, and Student Finalists at the Festival Gala. The Audience Award will be determined by ballot exclusively by the audience.
The grand opening of the 9th FullDome Festival will feature a special performance “Hotel zur Blauen Blume” in the dome of the Jena Planetarium – a world première – on the evening of May 27. From May 28 to 30, full-length feature shows, short films and clips will be presented and assessed. At the Students’ Night on Friday, May 29 creative productions by students will be on stage. On Saturday night, the Gala with the awarding ceremony and screening the best of the best will crown the Festival.
We invite all people to come to Jena to watch the latest productions in fulldome. We will screen 17 full-length feature shows, 36+ short films, 40 student clips, present two fulldome live VJ and music sessions in the big dome, and not less than 16 workshops!
The first Festival day, Thursday, May 28 is dedicated to Astronomy. Feature shows will be screened collectively with short films and student productions in the afternoon hours. Thursday night is Short Film Night. Productions for kids and with science topics will be in the focus on Friday, May 29. Following a long tradition, Friday night is reserved for all student clips.
